These terms cover your use of Find Your Bearing (the website at findyourbearing.app). By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them. Questions go to findyourbearinghelp@gmail.com.

What Find Your Bearing is

A research tool for comparing places to retire. It scores towns on what matters to you, gathers AI-assisted research with sources, and estimates costs such as taxes and carrying costs.

It's research, not advice

Nothing on the site is financial, tax, legal, real estate or medical advice. Research is gathered with the help of AI and public data, and it can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Cost and tax figures are estimates based on general assumptions, not your own tax return, property or county. Check anything important with the original sources and a qualified professional before you act on it.

Your account

• Give accurate account details and keep your password private. You're responsible for activity under your account.
• You must be at least 18 to create an account.
• One person per account. Please don't share your sign-in.

Free trial, plans and billing

• New accounts start with a 14-day free trial. No card is needed to start.
• To keep going after the trial, add a payment method under Settings → Billing. Plans are $20 a month or $180 a year, billed in advance through Stripe, and renew automatically until you cancel.
• You can cancel any time under Settings → Billing. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and you won't be charged again.
• If a trial or plan ends, your account is paused, not deleted. Sign in any time to subscribe and pick up where you left off.
• Payments are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise. If something went wrong with a charge, email us and we'll look into it.
• If we change prices, we'll tell you in advance, and the change applies from your next billing period.

Your content

What you add to the app (notes, photos, scores, plans) stays yours. You give us permission to store and process it only to run the service for you, as described in our privacy policy. Please only upload photos and information you have the right to share.

Fair use

Please don't misuse the site: no attempts to break or overload it, get into other people's accounts, copy the research database in bulk, or use it for anything unlawful. We may suspend accounts that do.

Availability and changes

We work to keep the site running and accurate, but it's provided "as is", without guarantees that it will always be available or error-free. We may change or add features over time. If we make significant changes to these terms, we'll update the date above and let account holders know.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, Find Your Bearing isn't liable for decisions you make based on the site, or for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.

Ending your account

You can stop using the site at any time, and ask us to delete your account by emailing findyourbearinghelp@gmail.com.
